We don't follow trends, we anticipate them

It all started back in 2012, when Argentina’s tech ecosystem was small and big dreams didn’t fit into Excel spreadsheets. Starting a company was almost an act of faith. There were no structured funds, no accelerators on every corner, no sophisticated investment networks. It was uncharted territory, but fertile ground for those willing to take risks.
It was just us, investing in what was within reach: talent, bold ideas, and a network that connected us with people ready to challenge the status quo. There were no formulas, only intuition. No metrics, just conviction. And even if we didn’t have everything figured out, we knew there was power in betting on those who thought differently. Of those first 15 bets, two became unicorns. Returns of over 100X and 200X. But beyond the numbers, they gave us something even more valuable: a signal. An early sign that it was possible to build something massive from places no one was paying attention to. There was a way forward, if we dared to think differently.
That first fund shaped us. Not just because of the returns, but because of the type of companies that inspired us. Teams with hunger, with global ambition, coming from a corner of the world the market hadn’t yet discovered. They were solving real problems with science, with technology, with grit. They were frontier companies, even if we didn’t use that word back then. But we were already on that path. And it led us to ask a bigger question: what if we go further?
Our partnership with Tim was no coincidence
When we joined forces with Tim Draper, it wasn’t out of convenience. It came from conviction. We shared the same obsession: to invest in bold innovation, in companies capable of changing everything. From Silicon Valley to Buenos Aires, the vision was clear. Even if the term “Deep Tech” wasn’t trending yet, we were already operating in that space. That place where technology meets risk, long-term bets, and tangible impact. Where cycles are longer, barriers higher, and the potential for transformation enormous.
That partnership didn’t just boost us, it raised the bar. It pushed us to double down on ambition. To stop wondering how to catch the wave and start figuring out how to create it. If the world was headed toward technology, we wanted to push the edge of it. Not just be part of the movement, but help lead it. Along the way, several of our early bets surpassed the $100M valuation mark, confirming that bold vision, when paired with the right founders, can go a long way.
Back to basics, and beyond
With the second fund, we decided to name what we had already been doing. We called it what it was: Deep Tech. But we didn’t stop at a label. We gave it a clear focus: invest in breakthrough technology, in Latin founders, with a global mindset from day one.
For us, Latin America holds a unique asset that the world is just beginning to understand: decades of scientific education, public universities producing world-class technical talent, resilience, and ingenuity born from scarcity. But often, that talent doesn’t find a bridge to the entrepreneurial ecosystem. That’s where we want to be. At the intersection of science and the market. Between the lab and the pitch deck.
We’re not just interested in financing companies. We want to stand beside those building the solutions the world doesn’t even know it needs. Help get that technology into the right hands. Connect vision with execution. Turn potential into impact.
Today, everyone talks about Deep Tech
What was once a niche has now gone mainstream. And we’re glad that’s the case. Because the more we talk about Deep Tech, the more opportunities arise for new companies to emerge and for more talent to take the leap. But being mainstream doesn’t mean everyone is willing to take the risks that come with it. That’s why we’re still here, pushing the limits.
We haven’t changed the kind of companies we believe in. We’ve changed how we find them, how we support them, and how we think about the future. And we still feel uncomfortable. Because we know discomfort comes right before innovation. If everyone else is focused on the current frontier, we’re already scanning the next one.
Sometimes that means betting on what seems improbable. Sometimes it means investing before the market understands. Or before the tech is fully ready. But that’s how the stories worth telling get written. We’re not here to follow what works. We’re here to discover what doesn’t exist yet.
And if there’s one thing we’ve learned since Fondo Cero, it’s that risk, when paired with vision, becomes impact. That’s what drives us. That’s Draper Cygnus.
